New kitchen for wheelchair user
Mr G worked at the Bank's Call Centre for over ten years when he left with plans to change his career. Unfortunately, Mr G's health took a turn for the worse and he found himself housebound losing the use of his legs. The problems didn't end there, his home was not adapted for the disabled. Mr G's home had steps to the front door and both entrances were too narrow to get his wheelchair through. Normal daily routines became a challenge overnight. The only way Mr G could now get in and out of his home was by stretcher!
Over a year later the Local Authority finally agreed to a grant to create a new side entrance, sufficiently wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair. However, the kitchen would need to be taken out to create a new entrance and could not be re-fitted. The grant did not cover replacing the kitchen, flooring, and plumbing with further plastering and electrical work needed. Frustrated and disappointed he searched online for organisations to help whereupon he found the Lloyds & TSB Bank Staff Benevolent Fund. Mr G told us it was good to speak with a volunteer who listened and wanted to help. We asked that estimates be obtained for the work, which was easier said than done during the pandemic. Mr G was delighted to subsequently be told we had agreed to a grant to fit a new kitchen and complete the necessary repairs which included decoration and flooring. It's fair to say Mr G was over the moon and told us "This is life-changing, I didn't know organisations like you existed. I am so very grateful and cannot wait for the summer to come".
